Ways you can support the Blue Hill Public Library

The Blue Hill Public Library depends primarily on YOUR support (not tax dollars) to fulfill our mission. There are many ways to support the library—annual gifts, 4-season giving, membership in the Friends of the Library, gifts to the endowment and gifts in kind—to name a few. All financial contributions to the library are tax deductible, to the extent allowable by law.

Make a One-Time Gift

You can now make an online gift to the Blue Hill Library using your credit card or PayPal. Click the button below to go to PayPal to make your donation.

Join Four Season Giving

Another way to support the annual appeal and spread your generosity throughout the year is to join Four Seasons Giving, the library's automated giving program. Four Seasons allows you to make incremental contributions to the library throughout the year. This helps you budget and possibly increase your support.

Monthly contribution

Annual Appeal

Over one quarter of our entire budget comes from the Annual Appeal. The library raises money for the Annual Fund through a general mailing as well as direct solicitation of individuals, corporations, and foundations. Donations to the Annual Appeal may be made at any time during the year by sending a check to:

Restricted Gifts and Memorial Gifts

The library accepts cash, bequests, annuities, securities, books or furnishings as memorial gifts. Books or furnishings given “in memory of” or “in honor of” individuals may be designated by a memorial bookplate or plaque. As long as they are consistent with the mission of the library, gifts can be designated for special programs or areas of interest of the donor.

Library Endowment Fund

Unless otherwise designated by the donor, large contributions will be added to the library’s endowment. Contributions to the endowment become long-lasting gifts that fund our service for generations.

Non-monetary Gifts

Gifts of art, books, and other tangible objects will be accepted in accordance with the library gift policy as long as no conditions are attached. The library has been particularly fortunate in the past in receiving fine paintings, sculpture, furniture, equipment and estate items from donors. Such gifts are accepted at the discretion of the library board with the recommendation of the library director. Although the library will acknowledge such gifts for tax purposes, the library staff is not authorized to appraise such gifted materials. It is the donor’s responsibility to obtain the appraisal prior to transfer of ownership to the library.

Friends of the Blue Hill Library

Your membership in the Friends of the Library ($10 per household) allows the Friends to purchase equipment and support various library programs and activities not covered in the operating budget. Examples of Friends of the Library activities include used book sales, movies, lectures, receptions and special children’s programs. The Friends have purchased furniture, audio-visual equipment, tapes, and DVDs. They have supported staff participation in outside educational opportunities. Members of the Friends of the Library receive a monthly newsletter announcing events you may be interested in. Download our Membership Form (PDF).
